Building a home for Small Irish Businesses

Starting a business is hard! That's the first thing to get off my chest. I had been thinking about starting a business for easily seven years. All over COVID, I toyed with the idea, but there are a million reasons that I wouldn't/couldn't/shouldn't. It was going to cost too much money, it was too big of a risk, I was working a very busy job that I couldn't leave (mortgage, keeping my doggo in the lifestyle he had become to love too), etc....etc. And I am a risk-averse person, who grew up in the '80s where a permanent, pensionable job is the end goal.

But in 2023, I just couldn't let the idea go. The idea was always around how could we showcase Irish talent differently. It felt that either we were known for sheep and Claddagh rings (two things I love btw), but there was so much cool, quirky design happening that I loved and couldn't help but wonder, would there be an audience for those products? Did people think shopping Irish for gifts was more expensive (it isn't) Would people care about shopping Irish or small? Maybe I was alone in thinking we have world-class talent here? Anyway, eventually, I said to hell with it. I couldn't let the idea go and so I would start Seven Sisters.

So, after six years ish in the thinking, and a few months in the thinking, I launched Seven Sisters. Not a little about the name. I am the youngest of 10 children. I have Seven Sisters, so eight girls in total. They are great fun, have lived all over the world, having grown in the 70's, they traveled all for work and eventually returned to Ireland. Seven Sisters is really about them. Things that they would like, they feed into a lot of the decisions we make and choices of products. Things that they would like to have received or things that they would like now.

The business is ever changing, the new website was something of a big task, but I think showcases the fab talent we have. I have made a TON, of mistakes. A TON of them. People have been so patient and kind as we figure out the kinks and improve things. Thank you so, so much for your support. For shopping with us if you have and for even reading this. I hope we can continue to grow, build our business and most important showcase the absolutely brilliant talent we have here in Ireland.
